How to Instruct a Repeat User of DISC

Frequently I get a question from either a client or a participant who is taking the DISC assessment – I’ve taken this before and taken a class on DISC and how it works – so how do I do it again and get a true reading in my report?

The key for a repeat user of the DISC assessment is simple. And, they will get an accurate report when they use either of these methods.

So, here are the two key factors in retaking a DISC assessment…

First, the user may have used the old “Most” or “Least” method of Disc scoring. The key here is use one of the newer DISC assessments using the “R4” method. The R$ is simple, the user will prioritize all the choices within a group of statements using a 1-2-3-4 ranking system.

The most intriguing factor about the R4 method is our research and validation testing show the R4 has the highest effectiveness rating of all the other methods. The R4 will give you higher accurate results due to forcing a ranking of number 2 and 3 – which were ignored by the Most – Least format.

Second and probably the most important – if you want an accurate report – is to instruct the user to take the assessment as fast and as quickly as possible. Thus, eliminating or minimizing the opportunity to over think or control your response in order to manipulate the results.

In fact, I have had people who had taken the DISC assessment over four times with classroom explanations attached to the report, tell me their most recent report was the most accurate of them all. How does this happen? Because both factors were in play with these people. They were using the newer R4 assessments and had been instructed to take the assessment very fast without giving any in-depth thought or in other words to score the assessment based upon their first thought or response to the groupings and how they ranked all four.

Again, the key for you to get the most accuracy with the DISC reports is to first use the most current validated assessments and second provide very explicit instructions about how they should take the assessment. This way you get the highest accuracy and the most buy-in by the participants using the DISC reports.
